A milestone for climate-neutral brick production
ONEJOON High-Efficiency Kiln successfully launched at the wienerberger site in Uttendorf (Austria). 90 % savings in CO2 footprint.
Uttendorf. The world's largest brick manufacturer wienerberger is testing innovative technologies at its demo site. The modernized Uttendorf plant was inaugurated on 28 November 2024. Located there is the new ONEJOON High-Efficiency Kiln, the largest industrial electric kiln for heavy clay ceramics.
Electric kiln for “green” bricks – 90 % CO2 savings
The kiln with a capacity of 300 tons per day supplies “green” bricks. In contrast to many other plants, wienerberger and ONEJOON rely on electric heating, which reduces the CO2 footprint by 90 %. The electricity for the kiln comes from renewable sources – including a PV system on the roof of the plant.

The vision: climate-neutral brick production
Last year, wienerberger CEO Heimo Scheuch announced that the company was aiming to implement the European Green Deal and become climate-neutral by 2050. Simon Schurr, Vice President at ONEJOON, also sees the High-Efficiency Kiln as a “future-oriented product with great potential”. The Uttendorf plant and industrial kiln technology from ONEJOON represent an important step on the road to climate-neutral brick production. According to wienerberger, the company invested a total of € 30 million in the development of the new electric kiln.
