Topic of the student research project

"Development of a high-temperature heating device for rotary kilns for the advanced ceramics & metals sector"

Aim of the work

The aim of the work is to develop a heating system for a rotary kiln. The system is to be modular and must be integrated into an existing unit. In addition to the conceptual design, the mechanical and process engineering implementation is also the subject of this work.

The technical claim of this work is to develop a marketable technology starting from a "blank sheet of paper".

Structure of the task packages

  • Conceptual design under the aspects of modular structure and
  • Concept and design of the electric heating elements
  • Concept and design of ceramic thermal insulation
  • Detailing of the heating equipment in CAD (Solid works)
  • Assembly / maintenance concept
  • Process engineering design of all components for process gas flow and preparation of a corresponding P&ID
  • Implementation of all process engineering components in CAD

Your profile

  • Student (m/f) of process engineering, mechanical engineering or related studies
  • Very good knowledge in the field of thermodynamics with focus on heat transfer and high temperature technology
  • Good knowledge in the field of construction (methodology and implementation in CAD)
  • Very structured and independent way of working
  • Good MS Office skills
  • Good communication and coordination skills, as responsibilities are spread over 2 locations (Böblingen / Bovenden)
