Aim of the work
Due to the energy transition, the demand for batteries and thus also for cathode material has risen sharply. In order to produce this large demand as efficiently as possible, the roller furnaces used for production are becoming longer and longer, which causes difficulties in transporting the crucibles.
The state of the art are roller furnaces with a length of about 50 meters. In these furnaces, several crucibles filled with cathode material are transported through the furnace side by side. Due to the load on the transport rollers, smallest tolerances as well as thermal effects, an undefined state of the position of the individual crucibles occurs at the furnace exit. This effect is further intensified as the furnace becomes longer and longer, making further transport more difficult. This effect is also called "meandering".
The feasibility of new concept ideas at the Test Center in Bovenden is to be investigated, tried out in practice and evaluated. The aim is to develop a cost-effective system to enable a 100 m kiln to be realized.
Structure of the work packages
- Familiarization with the subject area of furnace construction with a focus on roller furnaces and transport
- Planning, construction and operation of the trainer
- Carrying out realistic measurements
- Evaluation of the measured data
- Presentation of the results in an appropriate form
If required, the task can be adapted for the scope of a student research project, bachelor thesis or master thesis.
*Conceptualization of the process can also be worked on separately from the thesis as part of an employment as a working student (m/f/d).
