Thermal simulation of an industrial furnace

We are looking for our project/internship offer "Thermal simulation of an industrial furnace"

For the area of Product Development & Innovation an interested student (m/f/d) and offer the following study, project or final thesis:

Aim of the work 

The aim of the work is to use CFD software to create simulation models that enable realistic predictions of the temperature behavior within an industrial furnace. For application in the high-temperature range, the model assumptions must be critically examined and supplemented and evaluated by physical correlations. Heat transfer models integrated in the software must also be evaluated and extended by current research results. Based on a discussion of the simulation results, recommendations for the application areas of the developed models will be given at the end.


Structure of the work packages

  • Identification of suitable heat transfer models, literature research
  • If necessary, implementation in the simulation software
  • Consideration of physically relevant material parameters in the high temperature range
  • Execution of simulation calculations
  • Evaluation of results and suggestions for process optimization
  • Selection of an optimal design
  • Familiarization with the entire simulation environment

Your profile

To work on the topic, you will be a good fit for us if you

  • Are a student (m/f) of materials science, process engineering, mechanical engineering or related courses of study,

  • have very good knowledge in the field of flow simulation,

  • have first experience with simulation tools (ideally StarCCM+) and

  • prefer a very structured and independent way of working.

If in addition

  • good MS-Office skills
  • good English skills and
  • good communication and coordination skills
    can be brought in, ... perfect.
